Lovely to meet you!
My journey into dog training began with my working line Springer Spaniel, Seidon. When I first brought him home, I was eager for the freedom and adventure that comes with owning a gundog. But I quickly realised how unprepared I was for the challenges ahead. Seidon’s reactivity, high energy, and intense instincts left me feeling overwhelmed. Walks were chaotic, full of chasing, hunting, and barking, and no matter what I tried, I couldn’t seem to find the right approach.

Everything shifted when I started learning to work with Seidon’s instincts rather than against them. By tapping into his natural drive and providing the structure he needed, our relationship transformed. We went from stressful outings to long, fulfilling walks where we both felt calm and connected. His behaviour began to improve, and my confidence as a handler grew.

That experience sparked something in me. I began by shadowing top trainers while working full-time at a doggy daycare, and went on to complete a 6-month mentorship with Ches Pickering (Phoenix K9 Training). I continue to build on that foundation by regularly attending gundog clubs and exploring various dog sports, always looking for new ways to grow my skills and better support the dogs and owners I work with.

At Bear Basics, I specialise in helping owners of working breeds understand and work with their dog’s natural instincts. My aim is to help you build a stronger, more fulfilling bond with your dog by respecting their breed traits and channelling their energy effectively. When I’m not working with clients, I love training and working with Sid in the gundog sector.

Hey there!
Co-Founder, Academy Manager, Media Producer
I'm Yasmin, the other Co-Founder of Bear Basics and the Academy Manager. My main role involves overseeing the daily operations of our training business, which includes handling bookings, responding to messages, and coordinating training sessions. Beyond these responsibilities, I’m also the in-house photographer, so every image you see on our socials is my work, capturing the moments that showcase our training and events.

I’m also deeply passionate about training dogs, particularly understanding their instincts and behaviours. While I manage the academy, I love getting hands-on with the dogs, helping them achieve their full potential and supporting owners on their journey. I find joy in watching the bond between dogs and their owners grow stronger through training, and I’m always excited to bring my personal experience into our sessions.

When I’m not behind the camera or managing operations, you’ll often find me out and about with Sid and Teddie, enjoying the great outdoors and looking for new photo opportunities. It’s these little moments that keep me grounded and remind me of why I do what I do, helping dogs and their families live balanced, fulfilling lives.

At Bear Basics, we’re driven by a passion for helping dog owners build strong, lasting relationships with their dogs. Our mission is to help you understand your dog’s natural instincts and harness them to unlock their full potential. We focus on creating a balanced, fulfilling life where both you and your dog thrive together.

We specialise in working with dogs of all breeds, with a particular focus on gundog breeds. We understand that each breed brings its own unique set of instincts, drives, and needs, and we believe in tailoring our approach to respect those traits. By focusing on breed-specific fulfilment and clear communication, we empower dog owners to build a relationship that’s rooted in mutual understanding.

Rather than offering quick fixes, we take the time to explain the "why" behind every training method we use. This holistic approach ensures that your dog’s emotional, physical, and mental needs are met, leading to lasting change and a thriving partnership.

At Bear Basics, we are committed to giving you the tools and knowledge you need to create a meaningful, fulfilling relationship with your dog, one that lasts a lifetime.
core pillars
relationship
A strong relationship with your dog is built on mutual trust and respect. Our aim is to help you foster a partnership where you and your dog work together as a team. This creates a foundation of trust and confidence that will make navigating challenges easier and set the stage for long-term success.
fulfilment
Understanding your dog’s natural instincts and drives is key to reducing frustration and building a fulfilled life for your dog. By working with, not against, their natural genetics, we create a happier, more contented dog who is motivated and engaged, fostering a deeper bond between you both.
holistic
Just like humans, a dog’s behaviour is influenced by many factors. We take a holistic approach, considering everything from diet and exercise to sleep, genetics, and emotional wellbeing. By addressing all aspects of your dog’s life, we help ensure they’re not only behaving well but are truly happy, healthy, and balanced.
ready to build a strong relationship with your dog? let’s work together to unlock their full potential.
our approach
At Bear Basics, we take a holistic and individualised approach to training, built around the unique needs, personality, and lifestyle of both you and your dog. Specialising in working breeds, we don’t believe in “one-size-fits-all” methods. Instead, we focus on harnessing your dog’s natural instincts and drive, guiding you to work with these traits rather than fight against them.

Our approach isn’t just about training; it’s about fostering a strong, fulfilling relationship between you and your dog, built on mutual respect, understanding, and clear communication. We believe in supporting your dog’s physical and emotional well-being, which is why we prioritise a balanced lifestyle that includes proper nutrition, rest, and exercise.

By using play and food as motivation, we reinforce positive behaviours in a way that feels natural for your dog. We also advocate for safe, ethical training tools when appropriate, ensuring that every step we take aligns with your dog’s well-being and supports a long-term, fulfilling relationship.

At Bear Basics, we don’t just solve behavioural issues, we lay the foundation for a partnership that thrives. With a clear, consistent structure and expert guidance, you and your dog will build a relationship that sets you both up for success, no matter the challenges you face along the way.
